2002-2005 and 2006-2008, I spent my life as a freelancer. Fortunately, my time
at W+K meant I knew a lot of ECDs at agencies across the country and around the
world. I did work for Wieden + Kennedy globally, Anomaly, Leagas Delaney,
Publicis, Publicis Hal Riney, FCB, Y&R, Doremus, etc. I also did some direct work for ESPN, Fox Sports, NYTimes,
Boston Globe, PC Magazine and others.
More often than not, my services were requested for new business pitches. Since
I didn't produce it, I typically don't put it in my book. But I've helped
agencies win car accounts, beer accounts, apparel accounts, financial services
accounts and even managed to help pull in a pharma account (thought I'm pretty
sure I don't want to do that again.) I built a print and digital campaign for
PC Magazine to position them at the top of the tech pyramid. I was asked to
build some simple banners for the New York Times to launch Great Homes and
ended up building an entire design infrastructure for all external advertising.
